It’s almost Weereewa Festival time again at Lake George and this year Mirramu Creative Arts Centre is presenting a weekend of workshops in sculpture, dance/movement, writing and photography.

The course fee includes meals while you are here and entry to the end of weekend event, Jazz by the Lake with the James Luke Trio.

Tutors Elizabeth Cameron Dalman, Jeffrey Frith, Kathy Kituai and Tim Anger will lead your weekend workshops, giving you a fabulous opportunity to make site specific work on this stunningly beautiful ancient landscape.

You can book to stay at Mirramu in our shared bunkhouse style accommodation, arrange to bring your tent (we have bathroom facilities for you) or if you wish you can come in as a day student over the two days of your course.

Dr Elizabeth Cameron Dalman

Elizabeth was conferred with her PhD at a ceremony at University of Western Sydney on Tuesday 20 December 2012. Her thesis is entitled The Quest for an Australian Dance Theatre. For details of the thesis contact Elizabeth directly via this website.

This year there was a small private party. Mirramu was looking splendid after lots of hard work by Matthieu and Elizabeth on the grounds, there’s more water in the Lake than there’s been for  a very long time and the recent rains have made everything very green and lush.  Elizabeth reflected on the importance of caring for the Earth, and paid her respects to the traditional owners past and present of the land at Mirramu and its surrounding bushland.

sapling to silver , a new contemporary dance work, takes us on a journey from the wild excitement of the sixties, through the ups and downs of ageing and the pleasures and pains of a creative life.

The story of one woman’s life, told through the allegory of an ageing Australian eucalypt, invites us to consider the big questions we will all face: how do we continue to live a useful and joyous life as our bodies age? How do we communicate to future generations the wisdom and knowledge of our own?

Choreographer and Artistic Director Elizabeth Cameron Dalman OAM and the dancers of Mirramu Dance Company: Albert David, Vivienne Rogis, Miranda Wheen, Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal and Mark Laverty, will delight dance enthusiasts with this work, as well as those new to dance, the young and the old

The performance will, as always with Mirramu’s works, stimulate thought and talk and leave you with some of the free wheeling optimism of the 60s.

The Street

The work is based on the songs of Peter, Paul and Mary, folk idols of the 60s. Dancer Xiao Chen has taught the students from the video of the original performance and Elizabeth has been fine tuning.

Here we see her working with Associate Professor Xiao Xiong Zang and Xiao Xuan Yang.  Stay tuned for more news of cultural exchanges with Taiwan.
